I have been looking forward to my friend Tina for quite a while, and three days ago she arrived in Indonesia! She's going to travel with me for ten days in Bali. The day of her arrival would have been a quite a hassle - three hours by minibus in Sumatra, four hours waiting at the airport, one hour flight and a exhaustive search in different terminals at the airport of Jakarta to localize her arrival hall; before spending half the night at the airport and catching a connecting flight to Bali together - if I hadn't been so happy to see her again after almost a year. Instead of using the four hours between 23:00 and 03:00 at the airport for a nap, we chatted through half of the time. And that's how it's going on since then: we visit beaches, temples and countrysides and I'm afraid we don't give them all the attention they deserve, because we just can't stop chatting! There's such a lot to catch up...
Bali really does deserve a lot of attention! It is understandable at first sight why it has this reputation as dream destination. We stayed for our first two days at the beaches in the south of Bali, which are supposed to be a surfer's paradise (as I don't surf I only can deduce this from the huge number of surfers paddling out in the waves). Now we are already in Ubud, in the middle of the island, and almost can't decide what to see first. Today we rented a motorbike and rode through the rice terraces and villages full of temples around Ubud, tomorrow we're going to climb nearby volcano Batur. That's probably going to be the first day where we're going to have a little bit less of conversation: we start at 02:30 a.m. - and are probably going to be deadly tired...
